The word from Sue Alexander of Alexander Ink is that after 14 years of service, Jamie Maw has stepped down from his position of editor at Vancouver Magazine. I deem this a loss (until we find out what he’s up to in April) because Maw clearly knew his food and was a very capable writer. Back when he still wrote reviews, his where of the few in Vancouver that were actually worth reading, both for entertainment and information value.

To our dear culinary friends,

After some 14 years today I retired from my position as Food Editor of Vancouver magazine.

It’s been a terrific ride: the Restaurant Awards all grown up; a wee cookbook has helped launches Chefs’ Table Society of BC; the Wine Awards (that mainly grew from Sid Cross’s and David Scholefield’s skilled palates); and the Eating & Drinking Guide to BC.

Well all those, and a couple of million well-chosen words.

Most of all, though, it’s all about the people, from superb editors like Jim Sutherland, to remarkably gracious chefs, proprietors, and front-of-house staff, and of course, my fellow culinary journalists. BC stands proud on the global culinary stage because of your enormous contributions. Likewise, I can only think very positive thoughts about my entire experience at the magazine.

We’re not going far. Following some further culinary travels, in April I’ll be taking on a position that will offer a more industry-directed slant. And Yvonne, whose appetites for both adventure and a good dinner are boundless, will be very much at my side.

We send to you and your family our very best regards for a warm and cheery holiday season, and as always,

Condiments to the Chef!

Jamie
