When I think about this little hot dog stand in Vancouver, my memories turn black and white. I am Fred Astaire. From across a crowded street I see the hot dog stand and it stands out like a vivacious Ginger Rogers. A sign reading “Best Hot Dogs in Town/Or Money Back” beckons me over. With extreme confidence in the impossibility of such words I hover over. There I tackle it, where this juicy dog and I have our sweet Texas two step.

Bliss in a hot dog bun.

Though I don’t believe this stand has a name, it very well could be called the little hot dog stand on the corner. Its location is on the street leading into Granville Island. And though it’s standing, its wheels seem to convey a mobile grace. I suspect on Christmas it moves about spreading good Dogs everywhere.se

The Hot Dog: First of all, you have the choice of having your dog grilled with onions. This is an offer that should be accepted. It’s a fairly big dog, not a foot long, but bigger than any regular big bite at 7-11. With the hot dog grilled (in front of you), the eater is faced with some interesting condiments. There is the usual relish, sauerkraut, etc…The true uniqueness lies in the bottles next to the yellow and reds. There are a variety of hot sauces and barbeque sauces. While they are too numerous to name (about 5-10), they range from sweet and spicy (bbq sauce) to hot and mild (hot sauce). The way you choose to handle these things are all on your own.

If you do need a suggestion don’t hesitate to ask the staffer behind the grill. The staff (which in this case is singular) is friendly and accommodating to the skepticism the promise on the sign creates.

Though finishing this meat amalgam might not leave you dancing, it might just leave you smiling cheek-to-cheek. Wipe the mustard off first.
