The New Dona Cata is coming
a broken news story
by Jason Chin

Following up on a recent story, I have some more details about the new Dona Cata. Unfortunately (for non-East Vancouverites) the new restaurant will be just two blocks from the original at 5076 Victoria Drive. But it will feature an expanded menu (sweet!) that includes many of the old favorites. Sounds like a winner to me, especially with the sometimes sizable wait for a table at the original.
Too bad Chilo couldn’t shore up his business model, because there’s definitely a demand for authentic Mexican in this city.

new location has been open for a couple weeks or so now. tacos are still great. we had carnitas with nice crispy bits on the edges, the always-reliable longaniza, and a new improved beef steak, which is now more like slow cooked brisket. yum! and yeah, they serve beer now, which is what i always wanted! their expanded menu includes about 20 kinds of “alambre”, which is i believe different kinds of meat, veg and cheese grilled together and served with either flour or corn tortillas. have yet to try them, but the owner guy seemed excited about offering them.

Wow. I can’t wait to check this place out.
Thanks for the report Flowbee.
